The Ten Biggest Myths of Sigmund Freud

    

Myth #1:  God does not exist.

Myth #2:  Mental illnesses do exist.

Myth #3:  Psychological disorders arise because of a "cultural" interference with the instinctual, biological needs of an individual.

Myth #4:  The diagnosis of psychological disorders is based on sound scientific principles.

Myth #5:  Mental suffering is primarily a result of the unfulfilled needs for sex and aggression.

Myth #6:  Neurosis arises as a result of unrealistically high moral standards.

Myth #7:  Conventional morality demands more sacrifices than its worth.

Myth #8:  Mental suffering is best addressed through moral permissiveness and the loosening of the repressive constraints imposed by the conscience.
